Jazz enthusiasts, rejoice! British Columbia’s own vocal sensation Diana Krall swings into Ottawa this spring for an ephemeral encounter with the BC Scene. With her soon-to-be-released sixth album The Very Best of Diana Krall, Canada’s queen of jazz has truly achieved international fame as a stellar pianist and is recognized worldwide for her deep and sultry singing voice.
Within the past decade, she has worked with a number of impressive names in the music business, including Ray Charles, Tony Bennett, and her husband Elvis Costello, and has garnered a number of Grammy and Juno awards for her determination and immense talent. Join us for a spectacular evening of nostalgic tunes, such as From this moment on and The Look of Love, that have made Krall such a favourite among Canadians and jazz lovers around the world.
Krall was raised by a musical family in her hometown of Nanaimo on Vancouver Island. In the early years of her career, Krall’s skills on the piano attracted the attention of bass player Ray Brown (of the Oscar Peterson Trio), drummer Jeff Hamilton, pianist Jimmy Rowles, and producer Tommy LiPuma.
Her career exploded when When I Look in Your Eyes won a GRAMMY© for best jazz vocal and became the first jazz disc to be nominated for Album of the Year in twenty-five years. In 2002, The Look of Love was a #1 bestseller in the US and a seven-time platinum album in Canada. 2004’s The Girl in the Other Room, was her first to focus on her own songwriting - featuring six tunes co-written with her husband - and last year’s Christmas Songs proved one of the season’s best-sellers.
Joining Diana on stage in Ottawa are Anthony Wilson (guitar), Jeff Hamilton (drums), and Robert Hurst (bass).
