Newsletter: The National Capital braces for a West Coast Invasion

Monday, April 20, 2009

The venues are set, the art works are hung, the sound checks are ongoing, the volunteers are out in force and, of course, the artists are arriving in droves.

Starting at 6 pm, doors are open at the Ottawa Art Gallery, SAW Gallery, Gallery 101, the National Gallery of Canada, Ottawa City Hall Gallery, the Canada Council Art Bank on the NAC Mezzanine, and AXENÉO7 / DAÏMÕN in Gatineau. Catch works by more than 60 B.C. artists as you swarm from exhibition to exhibition. SWARM shuttles run between galleries every 20 minutes, ending up at the NAC Lobby at 9 pm for our Opening Night Party, highlighted by a special performance by artist Rebecca Belmore at 9:30. Also featured at the party are Theatre Replacement’s WeeTube, Radix’s The Performance Art Trap, DJ Timothy Wisdom, and Mobile SWARM, connecting SWARM galleries and audiences in a cultural dialogue. Those not swarmed-out by 11pm are invited to head over to SAW Gallery for the late-night SWARM. Who says Ottawa can’t party?
